Event Operations for the Republican National Conference
Project type
Facilities & Operations Planning
Date
July 2024
Marquette University
Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Role
Team Lead
As a member of Marquette University’s Student Operations Crew during Summer 2024, I was tasked with preparing campus residence halls to host attendees for the Republican National Conference. This was a very honorary and important event for Marquette. It required smooth, large-scale coordination to meet high expectations. We needed to be at the guest service desk 24/7 for the days they stayed which is why strategic planning from May to the beginning of July was so important.
I managed day-to-day operations with my co-lead, Talia Meltzer, overseeing a team of ten. Our primary focus was to coordinate effectively, ensuring all residence halls were prepared and ready for guests. I created checklists, trained the team, and created several strategies for preparing hundreds of rooms. My team also addressed any on-the-spot issues that arose to ensure a seamless experience for attendees. These issues often created small challenges for my team and I. For example, many building issues or guests wanting to switch rooms, but we always found a solution.
The event went smoothly, with over ten residence halls fully prepared and conference attendees expressing satisfaction with their accommodations. This project showcased my abilities in leadership, problem-solving, and logistical planning. I found management to be more successful when focusing on the importance of teamwork, planning ahead, and being able to think on your feet.
